Tom Daley’s youngest son is springing into action in France.
While the British diver secured his fifth Olympic medal during the 2024 Summer Games, his son Phoenix, 16 months—whom he shares with husband Dustin Lance Black—managed to steal the show from the stands.
Spotting Dustin and their boys Robbie, 6, and Phoenix in the crowd, Tom—who took home silver for Team Great Britain in men’s synchronized diving with Noah Williams—told BBC Sports, “Phoenix is trying to kill people by throwing his juice cup at people.”
The 30-year-old couldn’t help but laugh as he saw the cup drop before being handed it from below.
“They were stood right above the mixed zone when we were doing our interviews,” Tom explained to reporters after the mishap. “Phoenix did throw his juice cup at me. I’ll have to give it back to him at some point. It nearly took out one of the reporters. It was really nice to have him there and share that.”
The real prize for the five-time Olympian—who won gold at the same event at the 2020 Tokyo Games—was having his family by his side.
“I’m so proud to have been able to decide to come back after two years,” Tom, who became the most decorated British diver in history with his latest hardware, said to reporters after his win, per Reuters. “I think most of that was being able to set an example to my kids that if you have a dream and you work really hard, it doesn’t mean that you’re always going to be able to achieve exactly what you want to but it’s about enjoying the process and doing what you can to show up, to be the best person that you can be.”
Meanwhile, Dustin, 50, gushed over Tom’s latest milestone, which both of their sons witnessed.
“I have seen the amount of work and love he put into it this time,” the Oscar-winning writer shared in an emotional reflection. “It is very moving for the family as we see the hard work and dedication that goes into making it look so effortless. And that's what he and Noah did today. We're so proud.”
